Minister of Finance Disclaims Fake AI-Generated Investment Scheme
The Office of the Honourable Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr. Wale Edun, has raised the alarm over a fraudulent post circulating on social media platforms, warning the public against falling victim to a deceptive scheme linked to the minister’s name.
According to an official statement released on Wednesday, the viral content—which is said to have been created using Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools—falsely impersonates Mr. Edun and promotes a bogus investment opportunity. The Ministry described the post as “entirely false,” stressing that Mr. Edun has no affiliation with the scheme.
“This is a calculated attempt to deceive and defraud unsuspecting individuals by exploiting the credibility of Mr. Edun and the office he holds,” the statement read in part.
The Ministry urged the public to disregard and avoid sharing the content, reiterating that it is a malicious effort to mislead Nigerians.
Signed by Mohammed Manga, FCAI, Director of Information and Public Relations, the Ministry assured that steps are being taken to investigate the source and prevent further spread of the fraudulent material.
