Mercy Akide-Udoh, Africa's first Woman Player of the Year, is empowering young Nigerian girls through her Play2Learn initiative. She recently organized training camps in Port Harcourt and Uyo to identify and develop talented girls aged 15-20 for scholarships to US colleges.

Akide-Udoh, who played professionally abroad, aims to provide opportunities for girls, emphasizing that "when you empower the girl child, you empower the family, community, and economy." Over 200 girls attended the camps, showcasing their skills.

The initiative has received support from dignitaries, including Prof. Owunari Georgewill and Hon. Kufre Edidem. Akide-Udoh plans to make the event annual, with the next camps scheduled for summer 2025. Her goal is to help girls secure education and sports opportunities, inspired by her own experiences and her late mother's support.
