President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has admitted that strong criticism from the media and political opponents influenced the early days of his administration, noting that the pressure initially affected his reactions as he settled into office.

Speaking on leadership and decision-making, the President said intense scrutiny from newspapers and public commentators at the beginning of his tenure created significant pressure, which at times made him appear stubborn in responding to criticism.

Tinubu revealed that reading newspapers every morning is a habit he rarely misses, describing it as an “addiction” that helps him stay connected with public opinion and national discussions.

According to him, he reviews headlines daily and pays attention to the words and narratives used to reflect the mood of the country, even when he does not read every story in full detail.

The President explained that the criticism and heated commentary from the media and opinion leaders during the early stage of his administration shaped some of his initial responses.

However, he stressed that leadership requires courage and the willingness to take responsibility, particularly when difficult decisions must be made.

Tinubu noted that governance demands timely and decisive action, warning that failure to make necessary decisions at the right time could amount to failure in leadership.

He added that while public opinion and media coverage are vital elements of a democratic system, leaders must remain focused on taking decisions they believe are necessary for national development, regardless of criticism or pressure.
