For the first time since her highly publicised split from Nollywood actor Yul Edochie, May Edochie has shared the story of how they first met — a quiet beginning far from the glitz and drama that later surrounded their marriage.

Speaking during a recent lifestyle podcast interview, May offered fans a rare glimpse into a personal chapter of her life she had long kept private.

According to her, their first encounter didn’t happen at a movie set or a glamorous social event, but in a GCE (General Certificate Examination) centre, while she was in her first year at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT).

“I had just moved from Lagos to Enugu for school,” May recalled. “I was still trying to settle into university life when I met him at a GCE centre. He was a student at UNIPORT (University of Port Harcourt) at the time.”

May described herself in those early years as a bookworm—someone more interested in lectures and study sessions than social gatherings.

“I was very reserved, focused on my books. I wasn’t the going-out type at all,” she said, smiling. “Meeting him then was just unexpected.”

The revelation has sparked conversations online, as fans expressed both surprise and admiration for her candour and grace in speaking about her past.

May and Yul Edochie were married for over a decade and share children together. Their relationship became a topic of national discussion following Yul’s decision to take a second wife in 2022—an event that led to the couple’s eventual separation.

Since then, May has built a strong fan base for her calm and resilient public image, as well as her focus on personal growth, business, and family life.

The podcast interview is the latest in a series of public appearances by May, who many now see as a symbol of strength, reinvention, and quiet dignity in the face of adversity.
