Mary Okonoboh, goalkeeper of Spunky Blazers, one of the participating teams in the ongoing 2025 Judith Chime Championship emerged the spectators darling on Monday as the tournament enters day two, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
Okonoboh pulled some incredible saves during the matchday two fixture against Rangers Women.
But two penalty goals and a fantastic free kick goal saw the young goalkeeper bust into emotional tears, apparently borne out of passion and commitment.
She braved aside all entreaties by her coach and others at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium to pull herself together.
But the situation worsened after final whistle with free scoring Rangers Women emerge 4-0 Victor's.
As Okonoboh cried her way to the team's dressing room, former Super Falcons goalkeeper and tournament organiser, Judith Chime called her to console her and dish out both 'motherly' and 'professional' words of encouragement to her.
After several minutes of motherly exhortation, Judith Chime handed a brand new match ball to her.
"Her tears, I can say, was that of passion and commitment to her career and the game", Chime said.
"She is young and has bright future I the game".
Okonoboh later expressed gratitude to the tournament sponsor and prayed God to bless her and family as she continues to provide the platform for young girls to excel.
Rangers Women won the game 4-0.
