Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has made a passionate declaration of allegiance to President Bola Tinubu, warning that anyone who betrays the president’s trust would “incur the wrath of God.”

 

Speaking to journalists in Abakaliki on Monday, Umahi emphasized the depth of his loyalty, placing President Tinubu immediately after God in his personal hierarchy of obedience and duty.

 

“I have told the President even publicly that my loyalty is to God first and then, him,” Umahi stated. “When a man gives you the type of trust Tinubu has given me, you will be of the devil to betray him.”

 

The minister’s remarks came amid updates on the federal government’s ongoing infrastructure projects, where he revealed that contractors have been mobilized to fast-track the completion of about 30 major projects scheduled for commissioning by December 20. The projects, he said, span all six geopolitical zones of the country and are part of the administration’s efforts to transform national infrastructure.

 

Highlighting the scale and sensitivity of his responsibilities, Umahi disclosed that one section of a key project under his ministry is worth approximately ₦1.6 trillion, yet the president has never interfered with the procurement process—a gesture he interpreted as a mark of profound trust.

 

“Have you seen where a man presided over the procurement of a project worth ₦1.6 trillion and his boss did not call him to ask how he went about it?” he asked rhetorically. “That is trust. That is leadership.”

 

Umahi, who formerly served as Governor of Ebonyi State, described President Tinubu’s recent public commendation of his work as more valuable than “one trillion dollars,” saying it affirmed his commitment and divine guidance.

 

“I pray every day that if I place myself, family, and friends over God, Tinubu, and Nigerians, let Him [God] not answer me,” he declared.

 

The minister vowed to remain steadfast in his service to both God and the president, while dedicating his latest commendation to supporters and well-wishers who continue to pray for his success.

 

“I also dedicate the president’s commendation to all those who pray for me to succeed in serving the people,” he said. “This means that contractors will be on their toes to complete about 30 mega projects by December 20.”

 

The remarks underscore a growing culture of personal loyalty within the administration as the Tinubu government pushes ahead with its reform agenda amid ongoing economic and social challenges.
