Legal analyst Liborous Oshoma has weighed in on why some prominent politicians — including former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi — are reluctant to fully back the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its emerging coalition.

Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Oshoma said many of these politicians are approaching the coalition with a personal calculus: “What’s in it for me?”

According to him, several politicians who have “already lost out in the major power circles” are unsure whether aligning with the ADC would help them regain influence or simply sideline them further.

Citing Obi as an example, Oshoma explained that the former Anambra governor initially considered the coalition but “saw the handwriting on the wall” when it appeared heavily tilted in favor of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

“He went and saw the handwriting on the wall clearly because everything is like a gang up for and in support of Atiku,” Oshoma noted. “Because of this, Obi decided to step back, knowing he had little chance of getting the presidential ticket there.”

The analyst added that Nigerian politicians often gravitate toward platforms where they see tangible opportunities.

“They ask, ‘Where will my bread be buttered?’” Oshoma said.

He further criticized the ADC, saying it has yet to present Nigerians with a convincing vision for governance beyond opposing the current administration.

“Apart from wanting to send Tinubu back to Lagos, they haven’t shared strong plans or programs,” he argued.

Oshoma concluded that without a clear strategy, unity of purpose, and concrete policies, the ADC coalition may find it difficult to attract meaningful support ahead of the 2027 elections.
