Late Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Tournament : 13 Teams Signify Interest

13 teams have signified interest to participate in the second edition of the  Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup in Asaba, Delta State capital.

The 13 teams cut across clubs in the second tier, third tier Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), and grassroots women’s football clubs.

They include maiden winners, Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens, runners-up Imo Strikers, Delta Babes, Castmog FC, Unification Queens, and Giant Empress.

Others are Phoenix Queens, Awka Angels, Fortress Ladies, Bravehearts, Papa Soccer, Golden Sun, and Moje Queens.

It is an improvement on the maiden edition of the competition where seven teams took part.

Anambra Angels are the only team that participated in the maiden tournament that won’t be at this year’s edition.

Prince Kazeem Eletu Queens won the first-ever edition of the competition last year.

The tournament is aimed at immortalising former Super Falcons player, Late Ifeanyi Chiejine.

Chiejine played for the likes of Flying Babes FC, Pelican Stars, Confluence Queens, and FCT Queens before moving abroad.

Abroad she played for SSVSM-Kairat Almaty (Kazakhstan), FC Indiana (United States of America), KMF Kuopio, and PK-35 (Finland), as well as Zvezda Perm in Russia.

She died on August 22, 2019 at the age of 36.
