Kun Khalifa, Osun United Shine as NNL Super 8 Kicks Off in Asaba

Kun Khalifa FC and Osun United made strong starts to their Nigeria National League (NNL) Super 8 campaigns on Saturday, boosting their hopes of promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with opening day victories at the Stephen Keshi Stadium, Asaba.
In the first match of the Southern Conference, Kun Khalifa edged Crown FC of Ogbomoso 1-0, thanks to a composed 7th-minute penalty by Chijioke Ahiaeke. The early goal proved decisive as Kun Khalifa held on to secure all three points.
Osun United also made a statement of intent by defeating one of the tournament favourites, Warri Wolves. The win came courtesy of a goal from Super 8 specialist Ebenezer Odeyemi, who continued his remarkable record of scoring in opening games. Odeyemi previously found the net for Shooting Stars in 2022, Bendel Insurance in 2023, and now Osun United in 2025.
Meanwhile, in the Northern Conference, both fixtures ended in stalemates. Wikki Tourists were held to a goalless draw by Doma FC, while Yobe Stars and Barau FC also failed to break the deadlock in a cagey encounter.
All four northern teams will look to gain ground in their second matches on Monday. Wikki Tourists are set to face Barau FC, while Yobe Stars will clash with Doma FC, both matches taking place again at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.
The Southern Conference fixtures continue Sunday, as the battle for NPFL promotion intensifies in Asaba.
