A major rift has erupted among Kano-based Nationwide League One (NLO) clubs following the intervention funds donated by Deputy Senate President Barau Jubrin to cover the 2025 NLO registration fees for clubs affiliated with the Nationwide League Clubs Kano Forum.

 

The controversy was triggered by Mustapha Tiyya, chairman of Abba Gida Gida FC, who accused the forum’s leadership of mismanaging the N20 million donation, alleging that N4 million was diverted. His claims sparked outrage, leading to his suspension from the forum for alleged unsporting conduct.

 

In response, the forum’s PRO, Ibrahim Usman Arzai, dismissed the allegations, stating that only clubs with up-to-date NLO registration were eligible for the funds. He emphasized that 20 clubs failed to meet the requirements and were therefore excluded.

 

Arzai also criticized the Kano state government for failing to support NLO clubs since taking office, contrasting it with the past administration’s N96 million support fund. He challenged aggrieved clubs to seek financial backing from the NNPP-led government instead of blaming the forum’s leadership.

 

Meanwhile, DSP Barau Jubrin reiterated his commitment to youth engagement through football, stating that he personally funded the registration fees for 52 Kano-based NLO clubs to encourage wider participation.
