The Chairman of Kiru Local Government Area in Kano State, Abdullahi Mohammed, has been arrested for allegedly selling land designated for the “Kafin Maiyaki Mini Stadium” to a private company for over ₦100 million.

 

His arrest followed an investigation by the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission, which revealed that Mohammed’s account received a total of ₦240 million between November 1, 2024, and February 27, 2025. The commission has since recovered the funds.

 

Mohammed is reportedly cooperating with investigators as authorities work to unravel the details of the transaction. The anti-corruption agency reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and accountability, with the suspect remaining in custody as investigations continue.

In a separate legal development, a Federal High Court in Warri has overturned a previous judgment implicating Bureau de Change (BDC) operator Julius Oluwafunmisho Okedele in a fraud case. The court ruled that Okedele’s name was added to the EFCC’s case without due notice, violating his fundamental rights.

The EFCC had accused Okedele of being at large in a cybercrime case, despite the fact that he had cooperated with investigators and had been cleared. The wrongful listing led to reputational damage, including visa denials from Canada and the U.S.

On January 31, 2025, the court struck out Okedele’s name from the case and ordered the EFCC to issue a public apology in a national newspaper within 10 days, retracting the criminal accusations made against him.
