Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf has launched an economic empowerment initiative, distributing 7,158 goats to 2,386 women across the state's 44 Local Government Areas. Each beneficiary received three goats to support their livestock entrepreneurship .

This initiative is part of the Livestock Fattening Programme under the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project (KSADP), a 5-year program funded by the Islamic Development Bank, the Lives and Livelihood Funds, and the Kano State government. The project aims to enhance agricultural productivity, support farmers, and promote economic growth.

Governor Yusuf emphasized the initiative's focus on sustainable development, empowering communities, and reducing poverty. He warned beneficiaries against diverting the livestock for unintended purposes, stressing accountability and responsibility.

The program will also provide 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth in subsequent phases. With a total value of N2.3 billion, this initiative has been praised as a significant step towards improving livelihoods, strengthening food security, and creating wealth for Kano's rural communities.
