Joy Omewa Two Assists Propel Fortuna To UEFA Women’s Champions League

Nigeria forward, Joy Omewa helped her team Danish Elitedivisionen women’s side, Fortuna Hjorring continue its efforts to qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Joy’s two assists ensure that her tean beat host Brondby by 3-1. Hosts Fortuna had to come from behind to claim the victory after Nanna Christiansen had given Brondby the lead in the 19th minute.

Fortuna Hjorring replied with the equaliser two minutes later when Omewa set up Ashley Riefner.

She also assisted Riefner who gave Fortuna Hjorring the lead for the first time in the 52nd minute.

Signe Hansen Baattrup increased the lead to 3-1 in the 61st minute.

Omewa played for 87 minutes in the match before she was replaced by Josefine Laursen.

The former Confluence Queens and B93 forward has scored five goals in 15 league games for her team.

Fortuna Hjorring occupy the third position on the Championship table with 35 points after six games, 12 points behind Brondby with four more games to play.

The top two teams on the log at the end of the Championship will qualify for the UEFA Women’s Champions League.

Fortuna Hjorring also has a date with Nordsjaelland in the Danish Women’s Cup final on June 21, 2023
