Residents of Emure Ekiti, Ekiti State, were filled with joy and celebration as Bayo Ajayi, Chairman of the State Environmental Protection Agency, commissioned a free phone charging centre to help residents cope with ongoing power outages.

 

In a video now circulating on social media, Ajayi explained that the centre, part of the BAO Agenda Emure Chapter, was set up to provide temporary relief for the community, which has been without electricity for some time.

 

“Emure has been in darkness for a while, and we understand how difficult it has been for people to even charge their phones. While the government continues to work on restoring electricity, this centre is a stop-gap measure to ease the burden,” he stated.

 

Ajayi assured the community that the service is completely free, emphasizing that the initiative was rooted in grassroots engagement and solidarity with the people.

 

“I believe in the politics of identification—being present, connecting with people, especially at the grassroots level,” he said.

 

During the launch, locals broke into songs of praise, cheering and chanting in appreciation for the thoughtful intervention. Many residents expressed deep gratitude, calling the move a lifesaver in a time of need.

 

To add to the festive atmosphere, the event also featured traditional games such as Ayo Olopon and Draft, making the day a lively celebration of community spirit and support.
