Former President Goodluck Jonathan has refuted claims that he endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term ahead of the 2027 general election.

 

A viral report titled “Tinubu Will Win 2027 Presidential Election – Goodluck Jonathan” had alleged that the former leader predicted President Tinubu’s re-election and dismissed the chances of any opposition coalition defeating him. The purported remarks were said to have been made in Seoul, South Korea, during Jonathan’s recent recognition with the 2025 Sunhak Peace Prize.

 

However, in a statement released on Wednesday by his Special Adviser, Ikechukwu Eze, Jonathan’s Media Office firmly denied the claims, describing them as completely false and fabricated.

 

“The attention of the Media Office of His Excellency Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan (President, Federal Republic of Nigeria, 2010–2015) has been drawn to a piece of false information with the above title, currently spreading on a segment of the social media,” the statement read.

 

“This is fake news fabricated by agents of disinformation. At no point did Dr. Jonathan speak to any journalist on the forthcoming 2027 elections.”
