The Bwari Stadium in Abuja is set to buzz with excitement today as JNR Danburan FC squares off against Lapai FA in the opening match of the much-anticipated 2025 MTN NLO Cup. The annual competition, backed by telecommunications giant MTN, brings together eight elite Nationwide League One sides for four days of intense football action and a battle for grassroots supremacy.

Last season’s champions, Tudun Wada FC, delivered one of the tournament’s most memorable finals when they overpowered Palm Syrup FC with a commanding 7–2 victory. Their dominance set a benchmark that clubs will be eager to match or surpass in this year’s showdown.

 

Among the leading contenders is Dante FC, which enters the tournament with high expectations and a determination to impose its authority. Speaking ahead of kickoff, Olushola Ogunnowo, Chief Operating Officer of the Nationwide League One, expressed confidence in the organization’s preparations and the quality of competition fans can expect.
