Iyabo Obasanjo, daughter of former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, has said she does not need her father’s endorsement to pursue her political ambition.

 

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television, Iyabo Obasanjo, who is aspiring to become governor of Ogun State, explained that her decision to contest the election is a personal one.

 

According to her, she has reached a stage in life where she can make independent decisions about her career and political future without relying on her father’s support.

 

She also reflected on her age and family situation, noting that she considers herself fortunate to still have both parents alive.

 

“I don’t need his support; I’m almost 60. As you’re looking at me now, I’m 59, so I think that at this age—and I tell people at my age—my friends that still have both parents alive are very few,” she said.

 

Iyabo added that having both parents alive at her age is a blessing she does not take for granted.

 

“So I consider myself lucky at this age to have both my mother and father alive, and I don’t think at this age I should be consulting them for everything with my career move,” she stated.

 

She further said the only support she expects from her parents is their vote during the election.

 

“So what I’ve said I know, and my mother will vote for me; that’s all I ask of them,” she added.
