The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has nominated veteran sports administrator and journalist , Pastor . Emeka Inyama, for the prestigious SWAN Diamond Jubilee National Award, in recognition of his enduring contributions to Nigerian Sports development .

In a formal notification signed by Amb. Ikenna Okonkwo, SWAN Secretary-General, the association lauded Inyama’s “resilient and sustained development drive in the Nigerian sports ecosystem,” crediting his work with helping to nurture numerous young talents who have risen to national and international prominence.

“Through you,” the letter reads, “a number of young people with football talents have realised their potentials and developed to stardom, breathing life to many homes and communities within Nigeria and beyond.”

The award ceremony is scheduled to take place at the MKO Abiola Stadium, Abuja, on October 31, 2025, by 1:00 PM, as part of activities marking SWAN’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations.

Inyama, was a former  Commissioner of Sports in Abia State, He remains  the only elected Chairman of the Nigerian National League and also an Executive Board member of the NFF.

A respected figure in Nigerian sports circles, Inyama who has long been associated with sports journalism was the sports Editor of Statesman newspaper, worked as pioneer Chief Sports Reporter with Champions Newspaper before joining in establishing the defunct National Sportslink Newspaper as Managing Editor/CEO and later Editor in Chief
He was at various times,  General Manager,  Marketing of 8th All Africa Games(COJA) and General Manager, General duties of FIFA U17 World Cup Organizing Committee,  Nigeria 2009.
A widely traveled personality, he has also mentored scores of journalists and budding sports administrators. He later became Chairman Abia State Football Association 

Inyama is known for his roles in various capacities within the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), club administration, and sports broadcasting.

SWAN described the award as part of its commitment to honour individuals whose work has significantly shaped the trajectory of Nigerian sports, particularly football.

The statement concluded with an expression of gratitude, noting that Nigerian sports writers are proud to celebrate those who have “made Nigerian sports, great.”
