The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) don approve and release new Revised Timetable and Schedule of Activities for 2027 General Election.

 

Before now, the Commission bin fix Saturday, 20th February 2027 for Presidential and National Assembly elections, and Saturday, 6th March 2027 for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly elections, based on the old Electoral Act.

 

But after dem repeal the 2022 law and bring in new Electoral Act wey adjust some timelines for election activities, INEC say dem don review and realign the schedule to follow the new law well well

According to the Commission:

• Presidential and National Assembly Elections go now hold on Saturday, 16th January 2027.

• Governorship and State Houses of Assembly Elections go now hold on Saturday, 6th February 2027.

 

INEC also highlight some key dates for the election process:

• Party primaries, including settlement of disputes wey fit come out from primaries, go start on 23rd April 2026 and end on 30th May 2026.

• Campaign for Presidential and National Assembly elections go begin on 19th August 2026.

• Campaign for Governorship and State Houses of Assembly go start on 9th September 2026.

 

INEC remind political parties say by law, all campaigns must stop 24 hours before election day. The Commission warn say dem go strictly enforce compliance with the new timetable.

 

INEC talk say anybody wey want see full details of the Revised Timetable fit check the Commission official website and other official communication platforms.

For inside the adjustment, INEC also move the Osun State Governorship Election from Saturday, 8th August 2026 to Saturday, 15th August 2026.

 

The Commission note say some activities for both Ekiti and Osun governorship elections don already happen, but the remaining ones go now follow strictly the provisions of the Electoral Act, 2026.

 

INEC explain say the new dates align with the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended) and the Electoral Act, 2026.

 

The Commission add say successful election no be work of one body alone. Dem call on political parties, security agencies, civil society groups and all Nigerians to cooperate and ensure say the 2027 elections go peaceful, credible and truly reflect the will of the Nigerian people.
