INEC Don Fix FCT Area Council Election for February 21, 2026

 

INEC don announce say dem go do Area Council election for Federal Capital Territory (FCT) on Saturday, February 21, 2026. Dis one follow di Electoral Act 2022 wey talk say INEC must release timetable and plan one year before election day.

 

INEC Chairman, Prof Mahmood Yakubu, tok dis one on Wednesday during di 1st Regular Consultative Meeting wey e do with political parties for INEC Conference Room, Abuja, under di umbrella of Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

 

Di last FCT Area Council election happun for February 12, 2022, and di tenure of di current Chairmen and Councillors go end next year.

 

Prof Yakubu confirm say di 2026 election go happun across di 68 constituencies to elect six Area Council Chairmen and 62 Councillors.

• Election notice: February 26, 2025

• Party primaries: June 9 – 30, 2025

• Candidate nomination portal: Open July 21, 2025, by 9:00am; close August 11, 2025, by 6:00pm

• Final list of candidates: September 22, 2025

• Campaign period: September 24, 2025, to February 19, 2026, midnight
