In a decisive move set to reshape the landscape of women’s football in southeastern Nigeria, Imo Striker Queens have officially relocated from Owerri to Awka, Anambra State. The development, confirmed by club officials, is seen as a strategic push to bring Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL) Premier League action closer to Anambra football fans.

According to Information , the club has concluded all necessary arrangements to function as an Anambra State-affiliated team with immediate effect and will prosecute their NWFL Championship campaign from their new base in Awka.

Speaking on the relocation, Prince Chidi, CEO and President of Imo Striker Queens, said the move is aligned with the club’s vision for growth and its ambition to gain promotion to the NWFL Premiership. While he did not disclose specific reasons behind the decision to leave Imo State, he emphasized that the switch was necessary for the next phase of the team’s progress and long-term development.

“All is set for our switch of base, and we are committed to representing Anambra State with pride and excellence. We aim to not only gain promotion but to also plant the seeds of premier league women’s football in Awka,” Prince Chidi told Infonews.

The transition has been met with strong support from the Anambra State Football Association, led by Chairman Chikelue Iloanyosi, popularly known as “General.” According to the club president, the state FA has pledged full backing for the team’s ambitions and preparations ahead of the new NWFL Championship season.

This move mirrors a growing trend of strategic relocations within Nigeria’s women’s football circuit. Earlier this year, First Mahi Babes FC of Abajah, Imo State, also switched allegiance—relocating to Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, where they went on to win the 2025 Ebonyi FA Cup and advanced to the round of 16 in the national competition before being narrowly edged out by Rivers Angels.
