The 2025 Imo State Football League climaxed in thrilling fashion as Okpotemba FC of Ihitte/Uboma emerged champions after a dramatic penalty shootout victory over Heartland U-19 Feeders. The tense final, held on Friday at the Dan Anyiam Stadium practice pitch in Owerri, ended in a draw during regulation time, with Okpotemba eventually clinching a 6-5 win on penalties.

 

With the triumph, Okpotemba FC secures the coveted spot to represent Imo State in the forthcoming Nationwide League play-offs — a significant step towards gaining national football prominence.

 

Both teams showcased top-tier performances throughout the tournament, finishing as leaders of their respective groups to book a place in the final showdown.

 

Speaking after the final whistle, Imo FA Chairman, Barrister Ifeanyi Dike, praised the quality of play and the smooth organization of the league. He expressed satisfaction with the increasing competitiveness of grassroots football in the state, emphasizing the FA’s commitment to developing young talent and providing regular competitive platforms.

Barr. Dike, still celebrating the recent promotion of Kun Khalifat FC from the NNL to the top-flight NPFL, commended all participating teams and thanked the FA Board Members and secretariat for ensuring a successful tournament.

 

He further disclosed that Imo FA is planning more robust packages for teams, players, and stakeholders, urging fans and communities to continue supporting the association’s developmental initiatives.
