Chikelue Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender and now Chairman of Anambra State Football Association, ANSFA, has shared a New Year (2026) message of 'hope' and 'promise' for the game of football in the South East State, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Iloenyosi, who is currently in Morocco in solidarity with the Super Eagles in their push for a 4th AFCON title win for Nigeria, reckons that ANSFA is poised to surpass their 2025 performance.

Since assumption of office as ANSFA boss three years ago, Iloenyosi has made grassroots football development the key trust of his administration with All Stars Football Tournament and first ANSFA State Football League the flagship of his regime.

Under his leadership, Awka, the Anambra State capital, has become the football destination of the country with virtually all national competitions --NPFL, NNL, NLO, NWFL, President Federation Cup games, male and female -- taking place in Awka at different times.

"Fellow football enthusiasts, as we kick off 2026, may I share a message of hope and promise for our beloved sport", Iloenyosi, who is affectionately called 'De General', began. 

"Football has the power to unite, inspire and bring joy to our communities. As the Chairman of the Anambra State Football Association ANSFA, we are committed to working tirelessly to ensure our game is accessible, enjoyable and well-administered for all.

"In 2026, let's focus on creating a better football experience for our players, coaches and amazing fans. This means investing in our grassroots programs, supporting our local teams, and promoting a culture of respect, inclusivity and fair play.

"Be part of the movement, drive and success story", the message which he personally signed concluded.

Similarly, the Anambra State Local Football Council, LFC, election will hold in Awka on 14 January, 2026.

That will be preceded by bye-elections into four (4) vacant positions into the executive board of the ANSFA, which has been billed to hold in same Awka on 15 January, 2026.
