Iloenyosi Mourns Senator Ifeanyi Ubah; Says Late 'Ubah Was A Man Driven By Passion

Chikelue Iloenyosi, a former Super Eagles defender and current Chairman, Anambra State Football Association, has expressed 'rude shock' over the death of his predecessor, Senator (Dr) Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah.

Ubah, President and founder of FC Ifeanyi Ubah, a former Nigeria Professional Football League side and winner of the 2016 Federation Cup, was the immediate past Chairman of Anambra FA from whom 'General' Iloenyosi took over the position of Chief Priest in the Temple of Football in the state.

But on Saturday, 27 July, 2024, the hornet's nest was stored following the sad news of the death of the Capital Oil and Gas boss, Chief Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah, Ebube Chukwu Uzo.

Iloenyosi, in an emotion-ladden tone,  described Ifeanyi Ubah's demise as 'a huge loss for Nigerian football'.

Iloenyosi, who also represented the country at the U23s at the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games, recounted the 'good times' and fond memories he had with the former FCIU owner, adding that he's still in shock since the news broke.

"Honestly, I don't know how to react to this news. This really hit home. The whole of Nigerian Football and Political terrain have been thrown into mourning because of the passing of a man who left his mark on every sector he played a part in.

"He was a man driven by passion. The story of Anambra football won't be complete without him as he played his part diligently as the FA Chairman and also as the Proprietor of the defunct FC Ifeanyi Ubah.

"He invested heavily in football thereby giving an option to many youths especially those of Anambra extraction", Iloenyosi said.

The FA Chairman disclosed that the FA will be in communication with the family and will help role in the burial of its former chairman.

"On behalf of the entire Board Members of Anambra State Football Association, we pray God to give the family the fortitude to bear the loss. We will mourn him and pay him every single respect he deserves as a foremost football person.

"We will open a condolence register at the Secretariat in Awka for anyone that wants to pay a tribute and condolence visit. We will be in communication with the family to know how to assist in his burial. For now, we only owe him our prayers. May his soul rest in peace, Amen."

The Late Senator Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah before his death was a renowned sporting icon in Nigeria. A one time FA Chairman of the state, the financier of FC Ifeanyi Ubah and a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
