The Local Government Field in Ikwuano Local Government Area of Abia State has moved closer to hosting competitive football matches in the Nationwide League One (NLO) following an official inspection of the facility.

 

The inspection was conducted by Kasarachi Nzeh, a representative of the NLO, as part of efforts to assess the suitability of the field proposed as the home ground for FC Ona-Pal, a football club owned by Obinna Paul Peter.

 

During the visit, the league official was received at the council headquarters by the Executive Mayor of Ikwuano LGA, Anthony Nzeribe Nwaubani. The mayor was represented by the council’s Head of Service, Comfort Onyeabor.

 

Also present at the reception were the Ikwuano Sports Secretary, Blessing Ezekwe, the council’s Head of Department for Budget and Planning, officials of FC Ona-Pal, and other stakeholders who accompanied the NLO representative to the field for a comprehensive assessment.

 

Following the inspection, recommendations were made on improvements needed to bring the facility up to the standard required for official NLO matches.

 

Mayor Nwaubani assured the league official and the club’s management that the local government would collaborate closely with FC Ona-Pal to upgrade the facility and ensure it meets league requirements.

 

In his remarks, club owner Obinna Paul Peter expressed appreciation to the council leadership for approving the use of the field, describing the mayor as a strong supporter of sports development.

 

He added that the initiative aligns with the vision of Alex Chioma Otti, Governor of Abia State, whose administration has prioritised the growth and development of sports across the state.
