New entrants into the Nigeria football fraternity, Ijele Sports Club, Enugu, have been invited for the 2025 edition of the prestigious Viareggio Cup tournament in Italy, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The 75th edition of the  tournament holds March 17 through March 31, 2025.

Ijele Sports Club in a statement confirmed their invitation by the organisers of the annual tournament for the U-19s men's teams.

"We are thrilled to announce that our Under-19 team has been invited to participate in the prestigious 75th Viareggio Cup, scheduled to take place in Italy from March 17 to March 31, 2025", Ijelle FC said in a statement on Monday night. 

"The Viareggio Cup, officially known as the Viareggio Cup World Football Tournament Coppa Carnevale, is one of the most esteemed youth football tournaments globally. 

"Established in 1949, the tournament has a rich history of showcasing young talent and has been a significant platform for emerging footballers. 

"Traditionally held during the Carnival period in Viareggio, Tuscany, the tournament has been a cornerstone event in youth football for over seven decades. 

"The 2025 edition marks a milestone as it celebrates its 75th anniversary, bringing together top youth teams from around the world to compete and display their skills on an international stage. 

"Our team's participation in this tournament not only provides invaluable experience but also places us among elite youth squads globally. 

"We are committed to representing our club with pride and showcasing the talent and dedication of our young athletes", the statement signed by Ferdinand Naza, GM/CEO Ijele Sports Club, concluded.
