Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike has issued a fierce rebuttal to growing calls for his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), declaring that no one within the party has the authority or moral standing to challenge his membership.

 

In a wide-ranging media chat broadcast on Monday and reported by Arise Television, Wike reaffirmed his allegiance to the PDP, despite his increasingly close ties to the All Progressives Congress-led federal government.

 

“I am still in the PDP,” Wike insisted. “I have not seen anybody who would have the guts to tell me, ‘You are not a member of the PDP.’ Who is that? What is his contribution to the party more than me?”

 

Wike’s remarks come amid intensifying scrutiny from PDP leaders and members, including elder statesman Chief Bode George, who has publicly questioned the minister’s loyalty due to his prominent role in President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

 

Firing back at George, Wike took aim at the PDP’s record in Lagos State—a traditional stronghold of George’s influence. “Look at Lagos since 1999—not one House of Assembly, not one House of Reps, not one Senate seat. And you say PDP made you? No, you make the party popular by what you do,” Wike said, suggesting his own political achievements far outweigh those of his critics.

 

In a further escalation, the former Rivers State governor linked Chief George to one of nearly 5,000 land titles revoked in the FCT over non-payment of ground rent. “Bode George is number 3092. That land was published—non-payment for up to ten years,” Wike claimed, reinforcing his administration’s commitment to accountability and transparency.

 

While vowing to remain in the PDP, Wike underscored his priority in supporting President Tinubu’s government. “The only person I put at the top is Mr. President. I’m doing what I’m doing to support the government and make a difference,” he said.

 

Known for his combative style, Wike defended his aggressive stance on governance and reform. “I take joy when I step on the toes of big men… Those who say nothing will happen, I say something will happen. And it will.”

 

Concluding his remarks with defiance and conviction, Wike reiterated his long-standing contributions to the PDP and dared anyone to challenge his place within the party. “I’ve worked hard for this party,” he said. “And nobody—nobody—can tell me I don’t belong here.”

 

The statement is likely to deepen divisions within the PDP, as the party grapples with internal dissent and the challenge of maintaining unity ahead of future national elections.
