Chidi Harmony, who sits supremely of the scorers chart in the ongoing 2023 Ifeanyi Chiejine Memorial Cup Championship holding in Asaba, Delta State, has dedicated her incredible goal scoring form and performance to her coach, Newly Orisakwe, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.
After two round of games, Harmony has five goals below her belt, following a hat-trick in her team's opening game Oriental Derby versus Awka Angels which she followed up with a brace in Tuesday afternoon's 3-0 thumping of Green Foot, Enugu, in yet another Oriental Derby clash.
Exclusivenews.com.ng caught up with the pacy forward at St. Patrick's College, SPC, football pitch, Asaba, Tuesday after her brace helped her team, Imo Strikers, to a 3-0 victory over Green Foot FC, Enugu.
She said dedicating her goals and performance in the championship was borne out of coach Orisakwe's words of encouragement, motivation and counselling to her prior to the championship when she was down with personal worries that affected her performance.
"I went through a lot before coming here for this championship but my coach strongly stood by me", Harmony began in an emotional tone.
"It was so bad for me that it seriously affected my game but the coach stood by me, counselling me and encouraging me.
"I had to put those worries behind and I think my goals and performances here so far is just my little way to show appreciation to her for being there for me", Harmony said.
"Whatever I do here for the good of the team is all down to her and for her. I said I was going to do my best in this championship to reciprocate her confidence in me and her heart and emotion lifting words and admonitions to me".
Imo Strikers remain the only club to score seven goals in two matches so far in this championship which reaches its match day three on Wednesday, 13 December 2023.
