The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reportedly traced several real estate properties in Egypt to former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai as part of an ongoing investigation into his time in office.

 

According to sources familiar with the probe, the properties were uncovered during investigations into alleged financial impropriety linked to El-Rufai’s administration between 2015 and 2023.

 

Investigators reportedly identified three villas and six apartments located in high-end areas of Cairo. The properties are said to be situated in upscale estates including Arabella Estate, New Cairo, Banafsik Estate, New Cairo, Oriana Estate, New Cairo and Cairo Festival City, New Cairo.

 

Property market checks indicate that villas in some of these estates sell for between $1 million and $1.3 million, while apartments in Cairo Festival City are estimated to be worth about $500,000 each. Investigators believe the properties may have been acquired between 2021 and 2023 while El-Rufai was still serving as governor.

 

The anti-corruption agency is currently investigating the former governor over alleged financial misconduct during his administration. He has reportedly been in ICPC custody since February following earlier questioning by security agencies including the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Department of State Services (DSS).

 

El-Rufai has denied any wrongdoing, insisting that the investigation is politically motivated and that he is being targeted because of his political affiliations.

 

Meanwhile, the former governor has filed a legal action against the ICPC, challenging the search of his Abuja residence and demanding ₦1 billion in damages, which he says is compensation for unlawful invasion and the violation of his fundamental rights.
