The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has provided further details of documents and electronic devices allegedly recovered from the Abuja residence of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai.

 

At the Federal Capital Territory High Court on Monday, the commission disclosed that its officials conducted the search alongside officers of the Nigeria Police Force, with the exercise witnessed by El-Rufai’s wife, Hadiza, and his son, Mohammed.

 

The ICPC is opposing a ₦1 billion lawsuit filed by the former governor, who is alleging violations of his fundamental human rights. El-Rufai claims he was unlawfully arrested and detained, and that his home was illegally searched last month.

 

In its submission before the court, the commission urged that the case be dismissed, maintaining that its officers acted on a valid search warrant issued on February 18. The search, it said, was executed on February 19 between 1:37 p.m. and 3:56 p.m. at 12 Mambilla Street, Asokoro, Abuja.

 

According to the anti-graft agency, items recovered during the operation include investor account statements, asset declaration forms, business registration certificates, corporate compliance records, and client Know-Your-Customer (KYC) files.

 

The commission also listed documents related to the welfare secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), records of loans approved by the Kaduna State House of Assembly between 2015 and 2023, and interim investigation reports involving El-Rufai and his associates.

 

Other materials reportedly seized include share certificates of Ecobank Nigeria Plc, land documents, student financial service papers, valuation reports, deeds of assignment, irrevocable Powers of Attorney for various properties, Afri-Venture Capital Company documents, payment mandates, and media or publicity materials from the former governor’s office.

 

Electronic devices said to have been recovered include nine flash drives, one memory card, seven hard drives, several laptops—among them Apple MacBook Pro and Elumac Book Pro models—as well as mobile phones such as Blackberry, Nokia N95, Toshiba, Samsung IDEOS, and Google IDEOS devices. The commission also listed 18 other electronic devices and a Remarkable tablet with chargers.

 

The ICPC told the court that all items were properly documented, sealed, and secured for forensic analysis as part of its ongoing investigation.
