Veteran Nollywood actress Mistura Asunmo, popularly known as Iya 2D, has opened up about the personal sacrifices and unconventional decisions she made in order to fully commit to her acting career — including encouraging her husband to take a second wife.

 

In a candid video interview published on the official YouTube channel of Kunleafod TV on Friday, August 29, 2025, the respected actress shed light on her early days in Nollywood, her long absences from home, and the toll it took on her marriage.

 

Iya 2D revealed that from the very beginning, she made her passion for filmmaking clear to her husband. While he initially supported her dream, tensions began to rise as her growing fame demanded more time away from home — sometimes spending up to two months on set without returning.

 

“I already told him that I have a passion for filmmaking when I got married to him,” she said. “He told me he wouldn’t stop me from doing it. But when I started becoming known, I’d be gone for more than two months on set, and it became a problem.”

 

She explained that her husband initially assumed her time on set would be brief — perhaps a day or two — and wasn’t prepared for the extended periods of absence her acting career required.

 

To maintain peace in the home and preserve their marriage, Iya 2D said she took a bold and selfless step: she suggested he marry another woman who could be present when she couldn’t be.

 

“I suggested to my spouse that he have a second wife so that I would have the availability to pursue a career in acting,” she revealed. “I was relieved when he eventually married a second wife, because I didn’t want to harm our marriage by stopping him from having that companionship.”

 

Her revelations have sparked mixed reactions online — with many applauding her honesty and willingness to compromise for her career, while others questioned the emotional impact such a decision could have on any relationship.

 

Nonetheless, Iya 2D stands by her decision, emphasizing that mutual understanding and sacrifice were necessary for her to become the successful actress she is today.
