El-Kanemi Warriors FC secured a commanding 2–0 victory over Abia Warriors FC at the El-Kanemi Warriors Sports Complex, moving closer to the top of the Nigeria National League table.

Before kickoff, the home side paid tribute to their late chairman, Malam Ibrahim Mainu Mustapha, with a minute of silence.

The game began at 4:00 pm with a slow opening 25 minutes, reflecting Ramadan fasting, but the stadium later filled as fans poured in to support the “Babagana Umara Zulum Boys.”

 

El-Kanemi Warriors controlled the early exchanges, while Abia Warriors gradually grew into the match, showcasing their continental pedigree.

 

The breakthrough came in the 31st minute when Daddy Abdulrahman calmly converted a penalty, sending Abia goalkeeper Isiaku Ali the wrong way. The goal marked his 8th of the season. After four minutes of added time, the first half ended 1–0 in favour of the hosts.

 

In the second half, Abia Warriors pressed for an equalizer but were continually frustrated by the resolute midfield duo of Zayad Musa and ThankGod, as well as a solid defensive line.

 

The match was sealed in the 88th minute when Bashir Musa Mai Aljanna scored a sensational volley from the far post, catching the goalkeeper off his line. Fans described it as one of the finest goals of the season.

 

After 90+3 minutes, the referee blew for full-time, confirming a memorable 2–0 victory for El-Kanemi Warriors.

Head coach Kabiru Dogo expressed pride in his players’ performance, particularly since ten of the starting eleven were observing Ramadan.

 

“I want to thank Allah for this victory. It is not easy to play during Ramadan, especially against a high-profile continental team like Abia Warriors. I commend my boys for a job well done and also thank our fans for their unalloyed support throughout the match,” Dogo said.

El-Kanemi Warriors, affectionately nicknamed “the Brazilian Warriors” by their fans, currently sit sixth on the league table with 41 points. Their next fixtures include an away rescheduled match against Rivers United on Wednesday, followed by a trip to face Wikki Tourists FC before returning home to host Katsina United.

 

The victory not only boosts their league standing but also underscores the team’s resilience and fighting spirit during Ramadan.
