Nigerian side Bayelsa Queens FC, popularly known as the Prosperity Girls, delivered a commanding performance against Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic, securing a 4-1 victory in their Group B match of the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League Qualifiers.

 

The game, played at the Stade Charles Konan Banny in Yamoussoukro, saw Bayelsa Queens stamp their authority early on, with forward Seimeyeha Akekoromowei opening the scoring in the 14th minute with a brilliant finish.

 

The pressure mounted for Sam Nelly FC as Shakirat Moshood doubled the lead in the 35th minute. Just before halftime, Kalu Favour—the Togolese import—added a third for Bayelsa Queens in the 44th minute. Despite a late first-half response from Sam Nelly FC, bringing the score to 3-1 at the break, Bayelsa Queens maintained control.

 

In the second half, Bayelsa Queens extended their lead when Akekoromowei struck again in the 59th minute to bag her brace, securing her the Player of the Match award for her outstanding performance. Earlier, Alaba Olabiyi had also found the net in the 55th minute, although her goal did not appear on the official final tally.

 

Bayelsa Queens’ dominance was evident throughout the match, with crisp passing, solid defending, and tactical discipline orchestrated by Head Coach Whyte Ogbonna and his technical team. Their efforts were applauded by the club’s chairman, Robin Apreala, who praised the management and coaching crew for their continued excellence.

The team also extended appreciation to the Executive Governor and Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State for their continued support and commitment to sports development in the state.

 

The win places Bayelsa Queens in a strong position as they continue their campaign in the WAFU B Zone, aiming to secure a slot in the CAF Women’s Champions League finals later this year.
