FCT Coaches Association FC triumphed in the grand finale of the Yahaya Alaba Cup, defeating Kuje Coaches Council FC 6-4 on aggregate after a tense penalty shootout. The thrilling match, held on December 21, 2024, at the Area 3 football pitch in Abuja, ended 2-2 in regulation time before FCT Coaches Association FC sealed the victory with a 4-2 shootout.

The tournament, organized by the Nigeria Coaches Association, FCT Chapter, was dedicated to the memory of the late Yahaya Alaba, a former chairman celebrated for his contributions to football coaching in the region. The event drew dignitaries, football stakeholders, and family members of Yahaya Alaba, making it a fitting tribute to his legacy.

Tributes to Yahaya Alaba
Coach Abimbola Samuel, Chairman of the Organizing Committee and FCT Football Association board member, highlighted the importance of honoring Alaba’s legacy.

“Honoring late Yahaya Alaba is not just about his remarkable contributions to the association but also serves as an inspiration to others. He was a great leader who left an indelible mark, and this tournament is our way of remembering him and encouraging excellence among our members,” Samuel said.

Despite challenges such as limited sponsorship, Samuel commended the players for their performances and the referees for their professionalism, while expressing hope for a more elaborate event in the future.

Coach Bartholomew David, Chairman of the Nigeria Coaches Association, FCT Chapter, also praised the players for their skill and dedication throughout the competition. “Honoring Yahaya Alaba annually is a fitting tribute to his immense contributions to the association,” he noted.
