The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze, has revealed that the 'Ife Igbo Peace Cup' competition will usher in more peace in the state, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Hon. Udeze spoke on the sidelines of the opening ceremony of the competition Friday at the Awka City Stadium.

The Ife Igbo Peace Cup which has a prize money of N1m for the overall winners, N500, 000 for the first runners-up and N300, 000 for the second runners-up as well as other awards, is being sponsored by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Awka Capital Territory Development Authority.

The Speaker noted that the competition was timely and falls in line with the 'Solution Agenda' of the Governor Soludo administration.

"I was invited to this auspicious event by my friend, my kid brother in whom I'm well pleased in whatever he's doing to change the colour of the (Awka) Capital Territory", starts the Speaker of the Anambra 8th Assembly.

"I think Mr Governor has set the pace and what it means is that anybody that loves Anambra will follow the pace of Mr Governor.

"I think why today is symbolic is the fact that Awka is the Capital Territory.

"All that we're asking from the youths is that through sports we can unite them and the state.

"You remember, when you talk about football in Nigeria, football is the only game that brings all the tribes together.

"Once we are playing football, everybody is one Nigeria. So, I think, he is doing today, this competition, will bring more peace in Anambra State", the Speaker said.

He also promised to stroll in, once in a while, to watch some of the matches.
