Players of Heartland have resolved to fight till the last drop of their blood to ensure that the Naze Millionaires retained their top domestic league status, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

The five-time NPFL winners are embroiled in relegation worries and with six matches remaining on the regular season fixtures, the players insist they will work to navigate their way to safety.

"This club won't go on relegation, not even in this Our time", offers one of the players at a chance meeting in Owerri on condition of anonymity because the players were under management order not to speak to the press.

"Our position on the table is precarious at the moment but we will fight till the end.

"It's important we rescue the club. It's good for our individual careers and as a form of repaying the coach (Christian Obi) for the confidence he has in us.

"Our relationship with him goes beyond player/coach. It's 'father/son kind and the best way we can repay him is to ensure we didn't allow the club sink".

Heartland are 19th on the standings with 29 points, seven points behind 18th positioned Sunshine Stars (36) and eight (8) points behind 17th placed Akwa United (37pts).

"There are still 18 points to play for. We believe we can still make it", quips another player.

"We have everything to play for, so, anything can still happen. It's  fight to finish. 

"Coach Obi has been a father-figure to all of us. So we are determined to make him happy at the end of the day".

Heartland are back to their Dan Anyiam Stadium Ancestral home for the remaining fixtures of the season.

This means they are back in front of their fans which will further add bite to their survival battle.
