To ensure the smooth running of government affairs, Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu has officially handed over power to his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey, as he begins his three-week annual leave from March 11 to April 8, 2025.

In a letter dated March 10 and addressed to the Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, Governor Otu formally informed the legislature of his temporary absence and the transfer of responsibilities. The letter was read during a plenary session, and the House granted approval for his leave.

This marks the first time Governor Otu is taking official leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023. During this period, Dr. Odey will oversee governance in the state, making necessary decisions and handling administrative duties until the governor’s return.
