In a remarkable display of responsive leadership, the Governor of Abia State, His Excellency Dr. Alex Otti, OFR, has approved a significant upward review of the monthly allowance paid to National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members serving in the state from ₦4,000 to ₦50,000.

 

The decision, which represents an unprecedented 1,200% increase, follows the Governor’s discovery that Corps members deployed to Abia had been receiving a meagre ₦4,000 for years.

 

According to government sources, Dr. Otti initially found the information unbelievable until evidence was presented to him. Deeply concerned by what he described as “an unacceptable neglect of young Nigerians contributing to the state’s development,” the Governor immediately directed that modalities be worked out to ensure a meaningful, economically impactful stipend for Corps members.
