Some big men for opposition parties, led by the African Democratic Congress (ADC) and New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), wey gather for Abuja  and throw heavy allegations give President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC)-led Federal Government.

 

For the press conference, the opposition accuse the government and the National Assembly say dem dey try manipulate electoral process and push Nigeria go one-party state. But for quick reaction, government sources talk say all the allegations na baseless talk and political drama to attract cheap headlines.

 

According to the response, dem say especially ADC don turn “irresponsible political statement” to normal thing, just to mislead Nigerians and create confusion. Dem also accuse the opposition say dem dey work hand-in-hand with some civil society groups to spread what dem call “serious disinformation” against the National Assembly and the present administration.

 

Government side explain say the National Assembly only amend the Electoral Act to reflect the reality on ground. The amendment allow real-time transmission of election results, but if network fail, the result wey dey for Form EC8A go stand as backup.

 

Dem say opposition claim say Form EC8A create loophole for rigging no get head or tail. “Any serious Nigerian know say network wahala dey real. The law no cancel electronic transmission. E only talk say if transmission no work, the hard copy result go count,” one source explain.

 

Dem also clarify say IReV (INEC Results Viewing Portal) no be collation centre but only platform to upload results for public viewing. According to dem, the main document wey dey validate election result still remain Form EC8.

 

For the same press briefing, ADC and NNPP reject the use of direct primaries and consensus method to pick party candidates. But government supporters say dem no understand why opposition dey complain about direct primaries instead of the delegate system wey dem prefer.

 

Dem argue say direct primaries go return power to ordinary party members instead of few delegates wey money fit easily influence. “No aspirant suppose fear party members. Na so dem dey do am for countries like America wey Nigeria copy the presidential system from,” the source add.

 

On allegation say the National Assembly ignore Nigerians’ opinion, government side describe am as total lie. Dem say for two years, lawmakers consult stakeholders, experts and Nigerians across the country before passing the amendment.

 

Opposition parties also accuse President Tinubu of planning to turn Nigeria into one-party state. But government sources dismiss the claim, describe Nigeria as vibrant multi-party democracy with more than a dozen registered parties, including ADC and NNPP.

 

Dem remind Nigerians say Tinubu himself be former opposition leader wey join others to defeat PDP for 2015 general election, insisting say the president remain committed democrat.

 

According to the government, the new Electoral Act wey President Tinubu sign don close many loopholes wey some politicians allegedly dey use manipulate results before now.
