Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang's consultant on Sports and Plateau United, Benedict Akwuegbu, has declared confidently that the club will not be relegated to the NNL at the close of the current season, Exclusivenews.com.ng reports.

Akwuegbu, a former Nigeria international who has featured in all the grades of the national tea., spoke from his base in London, against the backdrop of the club's dismal performances in the 2024/2025 Nigeria Premier Footballeague, NPFL.

Plateau United are 16th on the league table with 28 points after 25 rounds of matches.

Gripped by fear of a possible drop to the second tier league, NNL, the hierarchy of the club handed a three-match ultimatum to the technical adviser, Mbwas Mangut, and his technical lieutenants, to either shape up and save the club, or ship out.

But Akwuegbu, who's currently undergoing a Masters Course in Mental Nurse in London, told Exclusivenews.com.ng that Plateau United will not be relegated.

"As you're aware I'm the Consultant To the Plateau State Governor on Sports and Plateau United", Akwuegbu, who was recently appointed Chairman of the PFAN Caretaker Committee, Plateau State Chapter by the National President, Tijani Babangida, began.

"Yes, Plateau United dropped points at the weekend against Ikorodu City. But I'm sure they will bounce back.

"The Governor, His Excellency,  Caleb Mutfwang,is the 'best' Governor in the history of Plateau State so far. He loves football with incredible passion.

"He pays not not only Plateau United but also Mighty Jets football club. He creates lots of tournaments to empower the youths because he has so much love for the youths.

"I'm optimistic that Plateau United will not sink, no, never. Plateau United will definitely bounce in a very much strong way.

"Plateau State is a home for football and Plateau United is a power house in football in Nigeria. Going back to history of league football in Nigeria, Plateau United has done so well, won the league several times and represented the country in several CAF interclub championships. Those days are bound to be back, I'm very optimistic about that.

"Plateau United is blessed with a very good General Manager and I think he hasn't done badly so far. The coaches, too, haven't done badly, just that the team is passing through a moment of challenge.

"The Coach, Mangut Mbwas, is highly experienced, having coached at Heartland, Rangers amongst other top teams in the NPFL. So, I'm optimistic that the club will bounce back strongly. Mbwas is a good coach and I'm sure everything will be good with Plateau United", Akwuegbu, a former Assistant General Manager of Heartland FC and President of BenedictAkwuegbu FC, Jos, said
