Golden Bees FC have emerged winners of the inaugural Jagaban Sabon Gari Unity Cup after a thrilling 3-1 victory over Zuma FC in the final played at the Aminu L.E.A. Football Field in Sabon Gari, Zaria.

 

The grassroots tournament, which featured 16 teams from across the Sabon Gari area, was organized in honour of retired Corps Marshal Dauda Ali Biu — the Jagaban of Sabon Gari, Zaria — and aimed at promoting unity and youth engagement through football.

 

In the build-up to the final, Golden Bees FC showcased dominant form, defeating Depotivo FC 4-2 in the semifinals. Zuma FC also had an impressive run, edging out Arewa FC 2-1 to book their spot in the decisive clash.

 

The final match drew a large crowd of football fans, community leaders, and dignitaries. Golden Bees FC took control early and maintained their momentum, sealing a 3-1 win over Zuma FC to lift the coveted trophy.

 

Both the winners and runners-up were awarded gold medals, while the first-place team also received the championship cup. In recognition of their efforts and to encourage grassroots sports development, a cash reward of ₦100,000 each was presented to the two finalists — donated by Honourable Sadiq Ango Abdullahi and the Jagaban of Sabon Gari Zaria.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, Honourable Sadiq Ango Abdullahi commended the players for their sportsmanship and encouraged continued efforts to develop football talent at the grassroots level.

 

“This tournament is not just about competition — it’s about bringing our youths together, building unity, and creating opportunities through sports,” he said.

 

Organizers have hinted that the Unity Cup may become an annual event to further support community development and youth empowerment in Sabon Gari and beyond.
