Gift Monday Joins Washington Spirit After Stellar Spell in Spain

Super Falcons forward Gift Monday is set for a new adventure in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) after completing her move from Costa Adeje Tenerife to Washington Spirit.
Monday leaves Tenerife as the club’s top scorer, having netted 10 goals and provided three assists in 19 league appearances this season. Her impressive form made her one of the most dangerous attackers in Liga F, earning her recognition as one of Africa’s brightest footballing talents.
According to Radio MARCA, Washington Spirit activated Monday’s €200,000 release clause, but Tenerife pushed for a better deal. After weeks of negotiations, the Spanish club secured a €300,000 transfer fee, making it a significant move in the women’s game.
Her absence from Tenerife’s squad in their recent 0-0 draw against Deportivo La Coruña all but confirmed her impending exit.
Monday’s football journey began at FC Robo Queens, where she developed her goal-scoring instincts before moving to Tenerife. In three seasons in Spain, she evolved into a prolific striker, winning Player of the Month and joining fellow Nigerians Rasheedat Ajibade and Edna Imade as top performers in Liga F.
Moving to the NWSL, Monday will face a new level of competition in a league known for its physicality, intensity, and tactical demands. Washington Spirit, home to some of the world’s best talents, will offer her a grand stage to further showcase her abilities and make an impact in American soccer.
