Gateway United FC began their 2024/2025 Nigeria National League (NNL) campaign with a hard-fought goalless draw against Godswill Akpabio United FC at the Gateway International Stadium, Ilaro. Despite dominating key moments and creating several opportunities, the hosts were unable to secure a breakthrough.

The match kicked off with high intensity as the visitors nearly struck early in the 5th minute. Gateway United’s goalkeeper, Idris Titioso, produced a stunning save, diving to his right to deny a long-range effort and set the tone for a solid defensive display.

By the 20th minute, Gateway United found their rhythm, pushing into the final third with intent. Captain Sanni Jamiu came close in the 41st minute with a low-driven free kick, but Godswill Akpabio goalkeeper Ikenna Benjamin expertly kept it out, ensuring the first half ended 0-0.

Gateway United maintained their attacking momentum after the break. A critical defensive effort from Samuel Akintola in the 55th minute stopped what seemed a certain goal for the visitors following a break down the left flank.

In the 74th minute, Jamiu Hazmat came agonizingly close to scoring, hitting the bar.
