The aggressived Governors of the Peoples Democratic Party popularly called the G-5 Governors may have had their fingers burnt in political chess game enroute to 2023 Presidential Election.
The Governors comprising of Ugwuanyi, Ortom, Makinde, Ikpeazu and Wike lost out in their various states after dumping Atiku.
What goes round, comes round as they saying goes, the five aggrieved Governors elected under the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, who vowed to retire the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar politically may have gotten their own share of the heartbreak.
It would be recalled that the governors, Samuel Ortom of Benue State, Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abi State, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and their leader, the Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike had in what may be described as anti-party activities, decided to support the ambitions of other parties as against that of Abubakar Atiku.
The PDP leadership crisis began after Wilke failed to secure the party’s ticket to contest for the nation’s top job in May 2022.
However, in their Senatorial bids in their states, three of the Governor lost in woefully. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi was defeated by the Labour Party candidate in Enugu State, while Samuel Ortom also lost in his quest to become one of the Senators in Benue state. Okezie Ikpeazu was roundly beaten to the third position in his efforts to pick the ticket of the Abia South Senatorial zone. Makinde and Wike, also lost their States to APC.
