Former Nigeria women’s national football team goalkeeper Judith Chime has been awarded an honorary doctorate degree by Michael Christian University, Atlanta, USA, in recognition of her services to humanity.

Chime received a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Christian Leadership and Youth Development at a ceremony held on Saturday, 21 February 2026.

An elated Chime described the award as a pleasant surprise, expressing gratitude to God for the recognition of her contributions to society. She noted that the honour has further strengthened her commitment to humanitarian service, particularly in advocating for the empowerment and recognition of the girl child.

“I am deeply grateful for this honour. It came as a surprise, but I thank God that my little efforts in serving humanity are being appreciated. This will only encourage me to do more, especially in ensuring that the girl child is given proper recognition in our society,” she said.

Over the past four years, Judith has consistently organised a U-18 youth football tournament in Nigeria, providing a platform for young talents to showcase their abilities and pursue their dreams in the sport. The competition has become a growing avenue for nurturing grassroots football and mentoring young players.

She added that the honorary doctorate would inspire her to expand her initiatives, promising that greater opportunities and developmental programmes would be created for youths in the years ahead.

The former international goalkeeper remains a strong advocate for youth development and women’s empowerment, using football as a tool to drive positive social change.
