Former Nasarawa United Star Shina Kumate Joins Latvia’s BFC Daugavpils

Former Nasarawa United talisman, Shina Kumate, has completed a move to Latvian Higher League side BFC Daugavpils, marking the beginning of his first professional stint in Europe.
The former Fosla Academy captain, who made over 38 appearances for Nasarawa United in the 2024/2025 season, was a key figure in the team’s midfield. Known for his creativity and composure on the ball, Kumate was also instrumental in guiding Fosla Academy to victory in the National Principal’s Cup back in 2021.
BFC Daugavpils, who play their home matches at the Celtnieks Stadium (capacity: 3,980), have been steadily rising in Latvian football. In July 2025, the club made history by playing in their first-ever European competition, narrowly losing 4–3 on aggregate to Albania’s KF Vllaznia in the UEFA Conference League first qualifying round.
Kumate has signed a deal that will keep him in Daugavpils for the next football season, and the club will be looking to his experience and leadership to strengthen their push for domestic and continental success.
Speaking after the move, Kumate expressed his excitement:
“This is a big step in my career. I’m ready to give my best for the team and make an impact in Latvia and hopefully in Europe again.”
The Latvian side is on the fifth position in the league and Kumate is expected to feature in their upcoming fixtures.
