Prominent human rights lawyer and activist, Festus Ogun, has announced that Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has officially unblocked him on X (formerly Twitter) following a lawsuit filed by Ogun over what he described as a violation of his fundamental rights.

 

Ogun revealed via his verified X account on Saturday that he met with the Governor at Lagos House, Marina, where both parties held a brief but cordial meeting aimed at resolving the issue amicably.

 

“Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu has unblocked me on X (Twitter). I met briefly with him yesterday at Lagos House Marina, on his invitation, to amicably resolve my complaint of human rights violations,” Ogun wrote.

 

The meeting follows a legal action filed by Ogun earlier this year, in which he challenged the Governor’s decision to block him on the social media platform, arguing that such an act infringed on his right to freedom of expression and access to information.

 

While details of the conversation remain private, Ogun emphasized that the resolution does not mark the end of civic vigilance.

 

“We will continue to hold authorities accountable, regardless. Aluta continua!” he added.

 

The case had sparked public interest, with legal and civic rights experts weighing in on the broader implications of elected officials blocking critics on platforms used for public communication.

 

The development highlights a growing global conversation around digital rights, particularly the responsibilities of public office holders in maintaining open lines of communication on social platforms.
