A talented player in the Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), Ifeoma Marvellous Onwuegbuchulam, has appealed to the public for urgent financial assistance as she struggles to raise N3.5 million needed for a corrective surgery after surviving a severe motor accident.

 

The former defender, who once featured for Inneh Queens of Benin City, FCT Queens of Abuja, and later Osun Queens of Osogbo, has been confined to a wheelchair for months following the tragic crash that occurred on July 5th in the Olonkoro area of Osogbo.

 

Ifeoma, a product of the Community Action Through Sports (CATS) youth development project—formerly supported by the British Council—suffered multiple fractures when a car collided head-on with the motorcycle she was riding.

 

Despite undergoing the first stage of surgery at Asala Specialist Bone Centre in Osogbo after initial treatment at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Ogbomosho, she now urgently requires a second, final surgical procedure to regain her ability to walk.

 

Speaking on her ordeal, she said:

 

“The accident was very serious, but I thank God I am alive. I was on a bike when a car hit us head-on. I’ve had the first stage of surgery, but I need another one so I can walk again. I can’t afford it, and I am appealing to football lovers, players, officials, companies, and Nigerians to please assist me.”

 

Former CATS Project Administrator and Team Manager, Pastor Oscar Ezinwa Emmanuel, known in football circles as T.M., expressed shock and deep concern upon learning of her condition. He called on the NWFL, NFF, philanthropists, and compassionate Nigerians to rally support for Ifeoma.

 

He said:

 

“I am still in shock. Ifeoma was our regular left full-back until we disbanded in 2009. She needs help urgently—not only to return to football, but simply to walk again. I appeal to the NWFL, NFF, corporate bodies, and individuals to assist her.”
