A High Court wey dey Jabi, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) don sentence one former legislative aide and ex-banker, Mr. Goni Yilkan, go eight years for prison after dem find am guilty for employment scam wey involve ₦120.5 million.

 

Justice F. E. Messiri, wey sit down for the case, tok say di man commit offence of “obtaining money by false pretence”, under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Related Offences Act, 2006.

 

Di matter start after one complainant report say Yilkan and one other man, Mohammed Adamu, scam am and other people between January 2020 and December 2021, say dem fit get Federal Government jobs for places like:

• Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS)

• Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN)

• Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC)

 

Di woman say she help collect money from over 60 job seekers, and send total of ₦120.58 million go Yilkan hand. But after all the gra gra, no job come out.

 

As di scam burst, EFCC carry investigate and prosecute di matter. Dem bring am go court for October 2023, and the case come waka reach final judgment now.

 

Wetin Happen for Court?

• Prosecution carry six witnesses and submit plenty documents to support their case.

• Defence bring only two witnesses, including Yilkan himself.

• Court come talk say the prosecution prove their matter beyond reasonable doubt.

• Result? Yilkan go prison for 8 years, no option of fine.

• But his co-accused, Mohammed Adamu, waka free as court say him no guilty.
