The FCT Cricket Association has taken a significant step towards reviving cricket among secondary schools in the Federal Capital Territory. Following a stakeholders' meeting with school principals, the association trained 18 Game Masters from 13 selected secondary schools in a 3-day Introductory Cricket Coaching course. 

Newly appointed FCT Cricket Coach, Olisa Egwatu, provided a comprehensive introduction to the game, covering its basics and essential skills. Participants received cricket training equipment, including: Cricket Balls, Cricket Bats , Helmet, Batting Gloves, Cricket Leg Guards, Cricket Gloves, Wicket, Arm and Chest Guards, and Cricket Bags

The Deputy Director, Sports, FCT Education Board, Lukas Innocent, commended the association for promoting cricket in schools, highlighting the potential for collaborative development ¹. Chairman, FCT Cricket Association, Engineer Emeka Onyeama, applauded the FCT Education Board's support and appealed to FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to approve land for a Cricket Oval.

This initiative mirrors efforts in other regions, such as Lagos, where the Lagos State Cricket Association has established schools development programs for primary and secondary schools ². The Nigeria Cricket Federation also aims to create a pathway from schools cricket to national teams.
